Sadie had a bumpy upbringing but she's still managed to drag herself out and carve a career for herself. That all comes crashing down when she, along with the women she manages; Mags, Lexi & Steph, get made redundant. She's screwed. In hindsight she shouldn't have attacked her colleague in a moment of rage. There goes the reference. When they all bump into each other a few months later at the job centre Sadie finds she's not the only one in a hole. They all need money to get out of their situations, its as simple as that. Mags mentions that some women find marijuana helps ease the sickness caused by chemo. With the desperation mounting and the coffee spurring them on they somehow decide to start growing it. They're only going to sell to ladies going through chemo, so its not too bad, right? They're not going to be proper drug dealers. And its only temporary. They didn't bet on the business taking off so well though. Before they know it they've got orders coming out of their ears, a sexy detective on their trail, suspicious neighbours and drug dealers angry they're working on their patch. Can Sadie pull them out of this dangerous world they've found themselves in? And can she do it before they end up in prison?

I didn’t want to say goodbye to these characters, they were loony, but real. They were sensitive, but fierce. They were funny, but emotional. This was a roller coaster, with its ups and downs, looping us all around, but by the time it was done I was ready for it to start all over again.I love how Laura writes; she is very creative and sassy. I felt like I was watching a movie or a sitcom. I don’t know maybe with characters like Sex in the City, but they lose their day jobs and figure selling dope is the way to go. The story is written in Sadie’s point of view, mostly. Sadie reaches her breaking point after she is let go at her job, along with her co-workers Lexi, Steph, and Mags. From the beginning of this story I couldn’t stop reading. I hated being interrupted. It is the type of story that will have you laughing wherever you are, and I didn’t care because the book made me feel happy. Each character has their own identity, again, I like that we have a group of women who all connected somehow. They have a friendship, a bond that makes them a unit. Maybe readers will like one character or two, the characters all had something going for themselves. Saddie, she is adorable (she hates that word..oh well lol) She is sexy, fashionable, tough, and completely out of her mind at times. You can’t help falling for her, she just has that charisma. When a detective gets in on a case, things get so interesting for this group. The laughs don’t stop. It is one mishap after another for this group.Harry, the detective, is ruggedly good looking, alpha, and at times I wanted to junk punch him! Sometimes I wasn’t sure what way he was going, and that ticked me off. We have some of his POV in his diary and I loved getting to know him better. What I adored was that we have this alpha male, but he is FUNNY, he is witty, and a jerk, but he melts your panties. I absolutely want to know who inspired Laura when writing about Harry. This jerk had me swooning just like Saddie did over him. Each character brings something to this story. It is well written, romantic, comedic, and emotional. These ladies had their reasons, you find yourself justifying or defending them, that things in life are not black and white. Laura knows how to address life with flair. I have the happiest book hangover!(Received an ARC for an honest review)

You know what they say, don't judge the book by it's cover? I chuckled from the start and it almost choke the crap out of me from laughing, I can't put it down. This is my first read from Laura Barnard and I have nothing but was fully entertained.I like how the story was flowing. It's almost as if i was one of the girls.I love all the characters and how they manage to get along despite what life has thrown them. When Sadie was called into the boss's office. She get so excited that her promotion at last will be hers. But to her most disappointment its the other way around. She get redundant along with her team. She thought she can pull it together to face that her 10 years of hard working days are officially over. But seeing her friends not taking it lightly, she just lost it!She barge in, in to her boss's office ready to fight for her team. Just to talk to him. But what she witness turned her to be completely different person. Reuben and Pam from HR was making out while she was worried about her and her team no job and bills to pay."I grab his stapler and stamp down his tie to the desk. They look up at me, eyes wide in surprised horror. But I'm not finished. Oh no, sir. I've flipped the crazy switch and there's no going back. My shaky hands grab a picture of him and his family on a yacht from the wall and throw it at them. It narrowly misses their heads, the glass smashing against the wall."Yes she lost her job, but at least she has the satisfaction that she did something to fight for her girls. After 200 job applications with no luck, Sadie caught up with the girls and found out that them too has got it bad. And so they decided to grow weeds only to help them make money and help cancer patients as well. But this only leads to the big bad drug dealer and the police.I love all the characters and how they contribute in the story to make it totally entertaining.Well done Laura and thank you for the wonderful book!!!

Honestly, this book is absolutely hilarious, brutally honest and deeply enthralling! The story begins with Sadie being called into the boss’s office for what she believes is a well-deserved promotion. When she walks in, her boss tells her that her department is all essentially…terminated. She has to face three women and inform them of this terrifying and difficult anomaly—right after she has a full on breakdown and throws something through her boss’s window for the lack of respect that he has given to her and her team. Sadie decides that the best way to find other employment is to go and apply to as many places as possible; however, when months go by without any word…she comes up with this crazy idea and the girls agree with her. They are going to start growing and distributing marijuana for cancer patients to help them through their chemo! That would make a boatload of money, right?! As soon as things get a little HARRY…she decides that they may have overstepped the boundaries, and she has become the very thing that she despises, out of total desperation. By the time she makes this rationalization, she doesn’t know if it has become too late to back out. What if she gets caught and goes to jail—could she ever have a prosperous future after that…and what happens to the girls that she has formed such a strong relationship with if she just turns her back and walks away?My favorite characters in Dopey Women are Sadie and Mags. The author has gifted both of these women with grand personalities! While Lexi and Steph were a little annoying, Mags and Sadie were fun, piss-your-pants funny, intelligent and honest. What I loved most about the both of them was that they seemed to have the strongest connection, like mother and daughter. Their moral compass may have been off by a bit…okay a lot, yet it still took strength to move forward after they knew the consequences. In my opinion, no one likes to read about someone’s perfect life—and theirs were all far from it! Harry seemed very stand-offish at first; however, I warmed up to him quickly and could see what direction his life was heading before him!I really enjoyed reading the story because it was highly creative, well-written and fast-paced. The author was able to hold my attention throughout the entire read. Overall, this was a wonderful read. I would have to note that I think this story to be inappropriate for anyone under the age of eighteen due to the language and situational dilemmas that are placed into the plot of the story. It was incredibly difficult to put down and any books that I have difficulty with this problem deserve five stars!
