Sometimes, the hardest part of staying together is keeping a straight face…

Ever wish you could leave all your problems behind and make a fresh start somewhere else? Trade the stresses and strains of everyday life for your own slice of sun-kissed paradise on the other side of the world?

Jamie and Laura Newman certainly have.

When Jamie's spectacular meltdown at work results in him being handed his P45, and Laura finds her working days end up with her rugby tackling defenseless pensioners in the high street, a move ten thousand miles away sounds ideal. After all, it might mend some of the cracks that have appeared in their marriage over the past few months…

So when Laura is offered a new job in Australia, the Newman family think their dreams have come true. But as the old saying goes―be careful what you wish for, you might just get it. As the hapless couple soon find out, problems have a way of following you, no matter how far you go to avoid them.

Can love survive under different skies?

Review In need of a belly laugh? Then you'll love this Fabulous Magazine (The Sun on Sunday)

About the Author Nick Spalding is an author who, try as he might, can't seem to write anything serious. He's worked in the communications industry his entire life, mainly in media and marketing. As talking rubbish for a living can get tiresome (for anyone other than a politician), he thought he'd have a crack at writing comedy fiction - with an agreeable level of success so far, it has to be said. Nick lives in the South of England with his fiancee. He is approaching his forties with the kind of dread usually associated with a trip to the gallows, suffers from the occasional bout of insomnia, and still thinks Batman is cool. Nick Spalding is one of the top ten bestselling authors in eBook format in 2012. And raunchy, and funny.I have read books 1 and 2 of the love series (these are stand alone books), and literally laughed until I cried. There are very few authors that can make me laugh out loud, and Nick Spalding is one of them. This story, like the others, is told from both Jamie and Laura's point of view. They have moved to Australia for Laura's career (Jamie's has tanked), and face all sorts of problems. The writing is just great, but yes, it is irreverent and raunchy, so if you are squeamish or don't find bathroom humor funny, you probably want to steer clear of this author. But oh, if you do like that kind of humor, you are in for a treat with this book.

The moment you realize that no matter how good it felt in the here and now, you just should have kept your mouth shut. Jamie Newman, an English newspaperman, is weathering not too successfully the stress of a new daughter and his own inability to fully subsidize his family due to wage reductions at the paper. A row with his wife Laura at breakfast, coupled with her frustrations of having to work part time rather than staying at home with toddler Poppy, and the addled suggestions of the bosses' new wife for newspaper copy are fabricating the proverbial final straw for Jamie. He loses it-and he loses it big time.Meanwhile Laura's job at chocolatier Morton & Slacks is hardly what she trained for. Between chasing down shoplifters and working with staff with the IQ of a parsnip, she hungers for something more challenging. And when Jamie announces he's lost his job and she's solicited to run a chocolate shop in Australia, a change of scene seems to be in order. Surely Jamie can find work there as well.So the soggy English family moves from Britain to Australia's sunny coast and they are in for a bit of a metrological and cultural clash. Laura's boss let her run the business from start to finish, auditing the books, setting up the logistics and deciding on new flavors. His idea of a business meeting is to take everyone to the beach to surf. Jamie however struggles to find any editing or copy work, instead becoming Mr. Mom, and tries to regain his own sense of self-worth.The story alternates view points between Jamie's blog and Laura's diary written to her now dead mom as the Newmans discover Australia's many wonders of nature-crocodiles, noisy koalas, giant spiders, and tiny mountain paths-and its interesting people. Interesting people they cross paths with as the stumble for one misadventure to another. The term "fish out of water" comes to mind. This is your summer beach read. You'll snort, you'll chortle, and you'll be entertained with the Newman's time in Australia.

Beck Lately Jaime and Laura have found themselves in the most precarious situations, especially now that he is unemployed and she has accepted a job from a Chocolate Company in Australia. He doesn't want to be a kept man, and his biggest fear is not being able to find a job before things get any more strained between them. Not to mention he is trying hard not to succumb to the wilds of his young apartment manager who has a thing for older men and who doesn't want to take no for an answer. Meanwhile Laura has to contend with a new job and a new boss whose methods are not the usual. As the two try to not mess up their relationship any more than they already have, they must navigate the ups and downs of marriage and parenthood. While I did not think that this book was as funny as the last (Love and Sleepless Nights), it definitely is a must read for anyone who enjoys this series.
