Rolling with a Rock Roadie By mike mcmanus The book is often hilarious and occasionally tragic in its depiction of life on the road with a serendipitously assembled rock troupe. The characters cover the spectrum, including zany inventions of rock promoters, introspective game-changers and, of course, the morbidly narcissistic. The book examines the underside of the rock 'n roll world with wit, insight and plot twists that ring true in today's pop music culture. A very engaging read indeed.

Breaux The most interesting character in this book to me was the coked-out whiskey sucking Johnny, son of record company owner, who thought the key to the band The Cutsies' success lay in promotional t-shirts that showed the four all-female group member with bigger boobs. With the one-pointed focus of the true lech, he never deviated from this idea the entire book. He was so far gone and so predictably bizarre that he served as a good foil to the more serious plot lines concerning the band members and other characters finding themselves and surviving their careers.The story is basically from the POV of a roadie who runs a promotional sales booth on the tour and concerns his misadventures and fun times as he travels around in a bus from venue to venue trying to keep ahead of the band's fan base of young women who don't mind lifting a shirt or two during the crush of the crowd while he's making other sales.There are other viewpoints as well, among them Jack, a rock-and-roll has-been whose blossoming relationship with one of the band members gives him a new lease on life as well as instruction for the young lady in the ways of the world, including and beyond rock stardom.The book's full of characters on different plot lines, with a wide array of types, all handled well by Mr. Brennan. I enjoyed it all, but liked I said, the one who sticks in my mind was Johnny, whose drug-mangled efforts at being a real human being I found downright hilarious.

I thought the multiple story lines throughout was very well done and kept me engrossed. I liked the writing and the characters, The author's comments on worldpolitics/events was a nice touch .Whoever reads this will be happy they spent some time on the road withan interesting roadie and his supporting cast.They will also probably want to check out Joe Brennan's first book, VIEWS FROM THE MAINLAND
