Ever wonder who they are, because they, whoever they are, have tremendous power over our lives. They decide what we can or can't eat, drink, or drive. The Idolatry of Idiots exposes who they are. It's not a pretty picture. They will stop at nothing from bribery, coercion, and murder to remaking society to suit their own needs in their quest to gain total power over us, the people, but before they can assume this power they seek, they must do one thing first. They must gain our trust. Once they have our trust, they can proceed with their own agenda, and we, the people do whatever they tell us to do because we trust them to do the right thing on our behalf. Thus, we must be vigilant and not readily give our trust to those who advocate extreme, dangerous ideas, or we risk falling into the trap set for us in The Idolatry of Idiots.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A good read! By MB This book, a satire, follows four generations of a family bent on destroying the quality and ideals of American life. But it also tells a deeper story, of how the Americans portrayed in the book cooperated with this family, unwittingly forfeiting the good things they had in life by following the advice of people who they assumed to be experts. Taking examples from the last one hundred years, the author calls into question mass acceptance of beliefs about such topics as immunization shots, climate change, educational policies and health food, to name a few. But who are these experts, and why do we fall so completely under their spell? Paullin seems to want us to consider why we so readily believe what we hear or read by depicting (hopefully) outlandish scenarios populated by unlikeable characters. His clever wit and flair for comical names for his characters (they made me laugh out loud!) combine with an intelligent writing style that make this an enjoyable read!
