Review Kayla Paine, Literary Blogger, Polished and Bubbly "This is one of those stories that just makes sense from the beginning. I don't mean that the sense that the main character has everything figured out, but that the writing is so flawless, it seems seamless. Lotus is an amazing main character and is so well developed as she embarks on her journey. She's one of those characters you feel a connection with. I recommend this 5 star book as a definite book club read and for anyone who needs a page turner in their life!"

I actually don't consider myself a novel reader (I lean more towards non-fiction), but Lotus made me rethink that inclination. The life lessons and thought-provoking questions that I often seek from my non-fiction reads were very present in Lotus, but in a more creative and entertaining way. Wondering what was going to happen with Lotus next, I completed this book in just a few days - picking it up whenever I had a free moment. The character development and imagery was great and allowed me to really envision the characters. This work delicately captures the complications of love and life! Great read!

Smith weaves a captivating tale that follows the story of Lotus Price, a newlywed whose life is turned upside down by an unexpected pregnancy and a chance meeting with a past love, both which causes her to question the choices and decisions that she has made in the direction of her life.Set in Chicago, and told in the first person narrative by Lotus, the reader is easily drawn into her story as she finds herself at an unexpected crossroads in her life. What should have been a wonderful start to her life married to her best friend Nick takes a sudden turn when she becomes pregnant six months into their marriage, and the unexpected crossing of paths with her first love, Dr. Gabriel Lincoln, brings complications and an unraveling to her life, that causes Lotus to question the choices, decisions, and what ifs from the past, against the desires of the present. You can't help but feel empathy and compassion as Lotus struggles with daily life challenges, her inner demons, and complications from the affairs of the heart. The author weaves a well written and compelling story that flows smoothly from the present to flashbacks from the past, with a complex and multi-layered cast of characters, to a realistic and poignant storyline about a person re-examining her life choices and second chances, that is easily relatable and engages the reader to ponder the choices and direction of their own lives. In reading Lotus, anyone can step into Lotus' shoes when it comes to their first love, especially when it comes to taking a walk down memory lane which brings with it the questioning of life choices, the wondering of what ifs, and the imagined possible opportunities of second chances.Lotus is a riveting and realistic portrayal of the complications of life and love. This book was so hard to put down. There is a wonderful mixture of drama, emotion, and humor interwoven throughout the story, you can't help but get caught up in the in depth and complex dynamics of Lotus, Nick, and Gabe's story as it unfolds. This is a wonderful must read story that will simply leave you wanting more.Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author / publisher in exchange for my honest review.

It pulls you in from the first page! Very well written, light, funny, with unexpected twists that makes it virtually impossible to put the book down! You literally befriend every character in the book, it's so well written, you know these people! I'm at brunch with Lotus and her sisters every week! It's a wonderful love story--- romantic love, platonic love, sisterly love, all in one. I was literally sad when it ended, it begs for a part 2! My boyfriend, who makes fun of me when I'm engrossed in a book, picked it up, and hours later, was on chapter 12! This appeals to all audiences--black, white, purple, just a well written, funny, engaging, page turning story of love, marriage, family, and the tough decisions that come along with it all. Grab your favorite cup of coffee or tea, a snack, and prepare to meet your new best friend!

By Dianna Setterfield While not being anything close to a literary accomplishment, Miranda Clarke's "Date With Destiny Adventure" book is one of the most fun I've read! Styled like those Choose Your Own Adventure books you've probably read as a child (although not affiliated with them in any way), Night of a Thousand Boyfriends will provide readers with the chance to decide what they want to do. To date or not to date...that is the question! The book starts off with you as the main character and your best friend, Marcy, planning a lonely Friday night together. The guy you met a few days before at the bookstore hasn't called you like he said he would (typical!), so you've readied yourself for another boring evening. But then the phone rings -- and the adventure begins!I read this book in one sitting. It really was a lot of fun choosing what would happen next, and I ended up with 24 different endings that left me boggled as to how I got there. I would definitely read another one of these books simply because they are so fun, the writing is so simple it's practically elementary, and I can't think of a better way to pass a couple of hours -- well, reading-wise anyway!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. foony By Julia adventure books are fun, but they've always been about aliens and falling off cliffs - until this series, which finally deals with the ISSUES - if, by issues, you mean meeting cute doctors and moonlighting as a body double in a love scene opposite brad pitt. not great literature, but definitely entertaining. i'm excited for this whole series to come out - one's called, 'help! i'm trapped in an aaron spelling teen drama!' i hope these ridiculous books do well.

Ever wonder who they are, because they, whoever they are, have tremendous power over our lives. They decide what we can or can't eat, drink, or drive. The Idolatry of Idiots exposes who they are. It's not a pretty picture. They will stop at nothing from bribery, coercion, and murder to remaking society to suit their own needs in their quest to gain total power over us, the people, but before they can assume this power they seek, they must do one thing first. They must gain our trust. Once they have our trust, they can proceed with their own agenda, and we, the people do whatever they tell us to do because we trust them to do the right thing on our behalf. Thus, we must be vigilant and not readily give our trust to those who advocate extreme, dangerous ideas, or we risk falling into the trap set for us in The Idolatry of Idiots.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A good read! By MB This book, a satire, follows four generations of a family bent on destroying the quality and ideals of American life. But it also tells a deeper story, of how the Americans portrayed in the book cooperated with this family, unwittingly forfeiting the good things they had in life by following the advice of people who they assumed to be experts. Taking examples from the last one hundred years, the author calls into question mass acceptance of beliefs about such topics as immunization shots, climate change, educational policies and health food, to name a few. But who are these experts, and why do we fall so completely under their spell? Paullin seems to want us to consider why we so readily believe what we hear or read by depicting (hopefully) outlandish scenarios populated by unlikeable characters. His clever wit and flair for comical names for his characters (they made me laugh out loud!) combine with an intelligent writing style that make this an enjoyable read!
