Entertaining Story of Blackmail in the Bayou By Al Campo, Author of THE FUNNY THING ABOUT WAR An entertaining romp through the bayous, marshes and Atchafalayan basin surrounding Lafayette, Louisiana with Jack Mouton f.k.a. Jack Hickey, a scrupulously dressed lawyer burdened by superstitions and Cajun/Creole folklore imparted on him from childhood by his psychic reading mother. Jack is wed to Jill the daughter of Jack's employer Big Leo, a fast talking woman chasing attorney who had built a once thriving law firm specializing in strip mall real estate. Jack's efforts helped quickly re-establish the enterprise and put it on a profitable path, yet while succeeding in building the business his marital relationship degenerates to sleeping in separate bedroom.Jack's friendship with Jude Malveaux another lawyer of questionable integrity and tastes in women embroils him in a sexual harassment scandal designed to pilfer millions from Big Leo. Jack's sexual detachment from Jill makes him easy prey to Charma a stripper and recent hire at Big Leo's law firm BTME. Toys like his Lincoln and company credit are taken away from him. Jack must find evidence of some sort that would either clear his name or be used against those that are forcing misery upon him and to do so he must get down in the Missippi mud that his backwater blackmailers wallow in.Through larceny, espionage and subterfuge he uncovers information that could absolve him, provided those close to him would stop betraying him for their own personal gains. The many twists and turns made by Jack as he tumbles down the hill into the slime takes the reader of this story to a rather surprising conclusion, where everyone gets their deserved slice of Mississippi mud pie.T-Bob Corvus has created some entertaining characters that meander through a fast paced story line that at times is humorous and spectral. I highly recommend it.

There's affection and what some might consider love, but it's not a romance. There is intrigue and tension but it's not a mystery. It's loaded with subtle humor but isn't strictly a comedy.So, what the hell is it?It's life for a collection of characters who inhabit the absurd and make it believable for the reader. Despite having no actual character to root for (or really, against) The Couillon brings a twisted and entertaining reality, slathered in tabasco and delivered to the table with a heap of crawdads. Yup, the table may be a sticky mess and there's a foul undertone from the kitchen but that just adds to the charm.A unique read from a writer who seems to draw pleasure from avoiding definition, and a needed ingredient in the world of literature.

Now, having read it, I think I understand why he didn't elaborate further. I can't say definitively which section I'd likely find this book in my local bookstore. It seemingly refuses to be tied down and so narrowly boxed into a single genre. It is suspenseful, subtly humorous, laced with lots of local superstition and elements of the paranormal. There is murder and intrigue, blackmail, espionage and lots of unexpected twists and turns that all manage to cohere into one very entertaining read.I can tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed The Couillon. The story is well-written and the characters well-defined. Beyond that, all I can say is "Just read it."
