About the Author Dale Vidmar is a product of growing up in Cleveland, Ohio. He moved to Oregon in his mid-twenties where he made a living as a hardwood floor layer and put himself through a B.A. in English and Education as well as a Master’s in General Studies Humanities and a Master’s in Library Science. On a more personal note, Dale loves riding his bicycle, perhaps even more than he loves driving. When he was eighteen, he rode about 1700 miles across Canada with his brother. He rides his bike nearly every day—to and from work, shopping, playing, etc. because riding gives him time to reflect upon the day and life. He loves to travel and venture out on long drives and trips to places where he can ride his bike or snorkel. Travel provides the opportunity to turn the world around and discover alternate perspectives and realities. There are two sayings that resonate with Dale. The first he discovered during a faculty exchange in Guanajuato, Mexico—"Respeto es un valor uníca"—"Respect is the only value". The other, he found in a computer book back in the late 90s from a person named Betty Bender. "Anything that I ever did that was ultimately worthwhile, initially scared me to death. To combine both ideas translates as, "Go forth and confront life. Push beyond obstacles such as fear and insecurity, but respect all that is in your path and consciousness." Currently, Dale is a professor and a librarian at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon. But the city he grew up in and the sports teams he followed as a boy still course through his veins. This novel is the product of many miles and a fertile mind steeped in darjeeling tea.

"It's Not Supposed to Be This Way" presents some interesting twists and turns as protagonist Lenny becomes increasingly aware of who he is and what matters most. Readers are in for a good ride, a journey of discovery.From my perspective, the book highlights the importance of knowing who you are (your values, goals, beliefs, deal-makers and deal-breakers) before making life commitments ...instead of bending to imposed societal expectations. Do yourself a favor and check out "It's Not Supposed To Be This Way"!

The metaphor of the many aspects of baseball unites the action, character development, and thematic exposition. The characters, even the minor ones, feel multi-dimensional; this is especially true for Lenny who becomes more and more real as the story unfolds.I found the reading of "It's Not Supposed to Be This Way" very entertaining. I wasn't ready to say "Good-by" to Lenny and his friends (and unfriends) when I came to the end.

It surely had some twists I did not see coming. Now, I wish there would be a second book, I want to know more about Lenny. I encourage anyone living or have lived in Cleveland to read it. Lenny portrayed, I think, many men out there.

Dès les premières pages, on comprend d'emblée que l'on va passer un bon moment avec l’héroïne, Marie. Marie est à bout et va donc s'exiler quelques jours avec sa copine au Maroc pour souffler un peu. Parce que : Marie, c'est la femme trentenaire que l'on trouve partout, à droite, à gauche, devant, derrière, chez le doc, aux courses, à la poste, au travail, à une terrasse de café avec les copines sans oublier le portable à la main. La nana bien en phase avec son époque qui cavale partout ! Marie, c'est également la femme de Seb. Ils sont ensemble depuis pas mal de temps, maintenant. Donc, on imagine bien que tout n'est pas rose ou blanc, mais ils sont là. Marie, c'est aussi la maman comblée de deux enfants. Un garçon et une fille. Et enfin, Marie est la nana qui adore son travail plus que tout. Celle qui pourrait faire des heures supplémentaires si besoin est. Pourtant, elle se trouve à un tournant de sa vie où elle a vraiment besoin de voir et faire autre chose, comme écrire un livre. Alors quand elle revient à la maison, il faut bien reprendre les bonnes habitudes et surtout retrouver sa casquette triple action : épouse, mère et working girl. Frais, léger, drôle, agréable à lire, je me suis surprise à sourire parfois même à rire sur les phrases et les anecdotes de madame ou même quand elle s'adresse à nous, lecteurs. J'avais même cette impression que madame Dagotor me connaissait réellement. Vous savez cette impression de se voir à travers la plume de l'auteur à quelques détails près. Et c'est exactement ça, car beaucoup peuvent se retrouver dans ce premier tome. Concilier le tout, tout en se posant les bonnes questions face aux doutes, les aléas de la vie voire de l'amour ; cette peur de ne pas être à la hauteur, d'être une mauvaise maman efficace et j'en passe. Quant à la plume justement, je l'ai trouvée addictive et fluide. Un livre dans l'air du temps qui va vous séduire, j'en suis persuadée.(...)" Il a donc été rejoindre la pile des livres non lus. Un peu plus tard je retombais dessus et décidais d'en lire quelques pages.. Deux heures après j'y étais encore, puis tous les soirs. Lorsqu'en déplacement je n'avais pas mon livre, j'y pensais. J'essaie de comprendre comment j'ai pu être séduit par ce qui s'annonçait être un livre de "Nanas"." Ce roman est un délice, qui je dois l'admettre laisse une sensation de vide à la fin. Je recommande ++++J'espère pouvoir bientôt lire un nouveau roman de cet auteur.
