He was eating a pazki and jelly had dropped from his mouth onto his toolbelt. I was sitting on the Portico, as the Constabulary walked by. Jeff seemed upset at their presence, and yelled out to them, "Carry on my wayward son There'll be peace when you are done Lay your weary head to rest Don't you cry no more". The constabulary lead halted and stared for a brief second before saying, "Sobald ich stieg über den Lärm und Verwirrung Nur um einen Einblick jenseits dieser Illusion Ich wurde immer höher steigenden Aber ich flog zu hoch Obwohl meine Augen sehen konnte, war ich noch ein Blinder Obwohl mein Verstand denken konnte ich noch ein wütender Mann Ich höre die Stimmen, wenn ich trauma Ich kann hören, wie sie sagen"I was upset that Jeff confronted the non-military police officers, and told him to tighten his toolbelt and go inside. He obliged, and I continued to read. I was upset that he was being such a robo-dick and distracted me from reading. As I read, I realized that I was wearing a brown shirt and had a stack of junk food at my side. Was the author writing about me? I was more intrigued. Did I mention that my wife is a redhead? Anyway. All was silent after Jeff disappeared into the house. I was able to finish the magnificent book. I highly recommend it to anyone that loves the bizarre. The book is really well thought out, and amazing. Just make sure your talking pet sloth is locked in his cage when the constabulary walks by.

Samurai vs robo-AWESOME By Daniel Vlasaty - The Buffalo This is the story of what it is like to live a sheltered suburban life, where there is nothing more to do than smoke pot and basically ignore the world around you. It's how Benson, the story's narrator, is living his life. It's how I lived my life back when I used to live in the suburbs. But sadly my time as a suburbanite was not as awesome as this book, not even close.One day Benson wakes up from day-dreaming about hot redheads to a knock at the door. What he finds, after weeks of hiding out in his parents' house, is not the world he remembers from before. Things have changed in the gated community of Grand Acres. The neighborhood is run by a group known as the Brown Shirts, and they are a violent and blood thirsty group of oppressors. They straight up murder people for the smallest of infractions. And Benson is not having any of that.Enter: sacred Indian burial-ground pot, a cannibalistic monstrosity, a giant robot with the head of a man named Mr. Belvedere, tons of blood and gore and explosions.This book is awesome, so very awesome. I loved every second of it. Highly Recommended. Seriously.Steve Lowe is definitely a voice to watch out for in the Bizarro world.

He reminds me of The Dude, from THE BIG LEBOWSKI. He's one of the most love-able characters I have read in a long time.The book starts with Benson hibernating in his parent's house, smoking weed and day dreaming about naked chicks. He's been doing this for a long time. When he finally re-enters the real world, he finds that the gated neighborhood he has been living is being run by a corrupt and oppressive neighborhood watch called The Brown Shirts. People are getting beaten and killed in the streets. Benson has to decide how he is going to live in this world. Will he be able to continue living as a weeded chill master, or will he become part of the resistance?And you may be wondering: How does a samurai and a Robo-dick fit into the story? Well, that's part of the surprise and I don't want to give anything away. Let me just say that it's awesome. The ending of this book is epic.I'm a big fan of Steve Lowe. His first book, Muscle Memory, is a Bizarro masterpiece. I think Samaria Vs Robo Dick is his most accessible book. If you want to find out about this Steve Lowe guy, I recommend starting with this.

A CO-CREATOR OF THE "DINOSAUR EXTINCTION DUE TO ASTEROID" THEORY TELLS ITS STORY By Steven H Propp Author Walter Alvarez wrote in the Preface to this 1997 book, "This book is the story of how Earth historians uncovered the evidence for one great catastrophe in the Earth's past---the impact of a huge rock that fell from outer space 65 million years ago, excavating an enormous crater in the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico and causing such disturbance to the environment that a wide variety of plants and animals perished forever. The most famous of the victims was the great carnivorous dinosaur, Tyrannosaurus rex... It has been my privilege to be involved in this adventure from the first discovery of evidence for a great impact at the time of the dinosaur extinction. For the first ten years or so, many scientists found more and more evidence supporting that impact, but all efforts to find the crater were in vain. Finally, in 1991, the long-sought crater was recognized, buried beneath the Yucatán Peninsula." (Pg. x-xi) [NOTE: page numbers below refer to the 185-page 1997 paperback edition.]He points out, "Large impacts... were frequent in the early history of the solar system, as witnessed by the ancient crater-scarred face of the Moon. But large impacts are rare nowadays, because the debris that was abundant in the early solar system has been swept up by the planets, large Earth-crossing comets and asteroids are now rare, and Earth is a very small target." (Pg. 6) He adds, "Our horror at the destruction caused by the impact is eased by the understanding that only because of this catastrophe did evolution embark on a course which, 65 million years later, has led to us. We are the beneficiaries of Armageddon." (Pg. 17)He notes that formerly, "Dinosaurs, in the general opinion, became extinct with a whimper, not a bang. It did indeed look that way; dinosaur bones are rare, the stratigraphic record is very incomplete, and with few fossils preserved, a sudden extinction appears gradual. Tyrannosaurus rex... is known only from a few fossil specimens. Clearly this does not provide enough information to distinguish a sudden extinction from a gradual one." (Pg. 57-58)He observes, "When the environmental disruptions from the impact had waned and the mammal survivors emerged into a new world, they must have faced grave dangers and great opportunities... Other niches must have opened up, and the most notable are the niches for larger land animals. Before their extinction, the dinosaurs held possession of these niches, and all mammals were small. But one of the most remarkable features of mammal evolution after the KT extinction was the rapidity with which large land mammals evolved. In addition, the NUMBER of mammal species quickly went up, as mammals evidently found all kinds of new niches--new ways to exploit the world around them." (Pg. 131)He says, "Early in our KT work, our Berkeley group imagined that all mass extinctions were caused by impacts. That may still be the case, but it is important to emphasize that nothing like the panoply of impact evidence as the KT boundary has been found for any other mass extinction." (Pg. 140-141)This is an engagingly-written account, which will also be useful as an introduction to this subject.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A very good read from a new author. By Wiwa Divided into three parts (books), this short novel is entertaining and nicely written. Grounded in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, The Chesterfield Hours introduces memorable characters and a couple of intriguing plot twists. Being sorry to get to the end is compensated by anticipation of new offerings by Gwyn Parry.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Try it By Barbag The Chesterfield Hours is a fun read. The dialog echoes a style from another place and time. After a few pages, though, you'll enjoy reading that style as much as the author must have enjoyed writing in it. Like many of us, our "noble" (?) protagonist is oft offended by the cruelty and crudeness of our world and he tells us so - in his own throwback style. Even so, our hero never becomes a sappy nostalgist or windmill-piercing buffoon - and Mr. Parry's writing never gets too cute. As the book jacket boasts, the female characters are also very well drawn I thought.As our hero reminds us, we are "ever living with our worries, and always surprised by joy." This book is a little joy, a jolly good romp, and becomes a real page-turner before all is settled.

The dialogue really moves the story along and has has an unusual touch to it that reminds me of the old BBC/PBS show "Butterflies are Free". I highly recommend it for a fun break from the heavier material often covered by book clubs. It's now up on the schedule for mine.

Upon opening it, you guess it a djinn (Fakrash) pops out and in his gratitude Fakrash helps Ventimore in a way you would not believe; neither did Ventimore.I also purchased the Kindle freebie which worked well except each page number was read out.The Brass Bottle (Amazon.com Exclusive)
